Access to quality healthcare remains a critical challenge in many remote and geographically difficult regions of India. In the mountainous terrain of Himachal Pradesh, thousands of residents living in rural and far-flung villages often face significant barriers in accessing timely medical care due to long travel distances, limited healthcare infrastructure, challenging weather conditions, and transportation constraints. To address these challenges and strengthen last-mile healthcare delivery, IFIE, in partnership with the National Health Mission (NHM), Himachal Pradesh, is implementing the Jeevan Dhara Project, a flagship healthcare initiative dedicated to bringing essential medical services directly to underserved communities through a network of Mobile Medical Units (MMUs). The project is designed to ensure that no individual is deprived of healthcare due to geographical limitations. Equipped with qualified medical professionals, essential medicines, and basic diagnostic facilities, the Mobile Medical Units travel across rural and remote regions, delivering accessible, affordable, and quality healthcare services at the doorstep of communities. By combining mobility, outreach, and community engagement, the Jeevan Dhara Project serves as an important bridge between rural populations and the public healthcare system, ensuring that healthcare reaches those who need it most.
